Alibaba Pursues Global AI Users Through Qwen Model Enhancements

Alibaba Group Holding Ltd.’s cloud unit is enhancing its overseas artificial intelligence offerings to attract more global clients.

Alibaba Cloud is broadening its platform-as-a-service capabilities and upgrading its international portfolio with advanced proprietary models like Qwen-Max and the DeepSeek-inspired QwQ-Plus reasoning model. This expansion, facilitated through its Singapore data centers, signals Alibaba’s intensified efforts to capture AI users and developers worldwide.

Since launching DeepSeek in January, China’s e-commerce and cloud giant has accelerated its AI rollout, including developer tools priced at just $1 annually for individuals. The broader Chinese AI sector has flooded the market with low-cost or free services following DeepSeek’s breakthrough in cost-efficient model training earlier this year.

Alibaba is preparing to launch its flagship Qwen 3 model upgrade as early as this month, according to Bloomberg. The Hangzhou tech giant also introduced an enhanced version of its Quark AI assistant, combining chatbot capabilities, advanced reasoning, and task automation.

Alongside cloud solutions designed to attract AI developers, the company unveiled new SaaS offerings for end-users on Tuesday. These include:

  • AI Doc: A document processing tool supporting multiple file formats
  • Smart Studio: A generative AI platform for content creation
